The Woodsland World Wide Carnival Glass Association, Inc. presents the Woodsland Pine commemorative piece.  Each year's edition was run in limited quantities, and is available only to association Members for purchase.  The front pattern is named "Woodsland Pine" and was created by www.cga member Glen Thistlewood exclusively for the association.  The exterior pattern since the 2000 edition is named "Flowers of the World" and was also designed by Glen Thistlewood.  If you click the pictures on the right, a larger version will open in a new window.

If you are interested in the history of the Woodsland Pine, how it was made, and the learning process Glen Thistlewood experienced in design a carnival glass pattern, visit our section on making the Woodsland Pine.

The Editions:

2009 The 2009 commemorative continued the run of pieces by Fenton for wwwcga.  The piece is a ruffled bowl in the new Marigold on Black (which features Marigold iridescence on black glass).  We have a limited number of these unique items on offer - just 60 in total. The interior design is the "Woodsland Pine" - the exterior is the "Flowers of the World". On the marie are the molded words: Greenville 2009.

Typical of hand-finished Carnival Glass, no two pieces are exactly the same. Our descriptions are intended to give a general idea only.  Please note, the first picture gives an example of the piece, while the second picture shows you the date, which is "unique".

This is the eleventh edition of the Woodsland Pine.

2008 The 2008 commemorative was a surprise, as the Fenton Art Glass Factory managed to stay open after announcing its impending closure.  The piece is a flat plate in Indigo Blue.  We have a limited number of these beautiful and unique items on offer - just 65 in total. The interior design is the "Woodsland Pine" - the exterior is the "Flowers of the World". On the marie are the molded words: Greenville 2008.

Typical of hand-finished Carnival Glass, no two pieces are exactly the same. Our descriptions are intended to give a general idea only.  Please note, the first picture on the left is the plate coming out of the lehr at Fenton (with a dark background and yellow lighting conditions.)  The second picture on the right is actually a whimsey (an ICS bowl), but gives you a better representation of the color and iridescence of the piece in natural lighting.

This is the tenth edition of the Woodsland Pine.

2007 The 2007 commemorative was produced right after the Fenton Art Glass Company announced it would be closing.  This beautiful piece is a Bon Bon and is made in the color Aubergine, which is strikingly similar to the original Amethyst produced by manufacturers in carnival glass' vintage years.  We have a limited number of these beautiful and unique items on offer - just 100 in total. The interior design is the "Woodsland Pine" - the exterior is the "Flowers of the World". On the marie are the molded words: Indianapolis 2007.

Typical of hand-finished Carnival Glass, no two pieces are exactly the same. Our descriptions are intended to give a general idea only. Each handle was applied by hand.

2006

The 2006 commemorative is produced in the original mould shape, and the color is Fenton's stunningly beautiful turquoise. We have a very limited number of these beautiful and unique items on offer - just 91 in total. The interior design is the "Woodsland Pine" - the exterior is the "Flowers of the World". On the marie are the molded words: St. Louis 2006 and a cursive Fenton "F."

Typical of hand-finished Carnival Glass, no two pieces are exactly the same. Our descriptions are intended to give a general idea only.  The pictures on the right are meant to give you an idea of the color and iridescence on different backgrounds, but this gorgeous piece is VERY difficult to photograph.  You truly have to see one to believe how beautiful this color is on this piece.

2004

The 2004 commemorative is a Ruby Stretch Cuspidor made for us by the Fenton Art Glass Company. Pressed Ruby (red) is a quixotic color to make, for it requires controlled re-heating to "strike" and maintain its vibrant red tones. Selenium and cadmium are used in the glass batch to produce the splendid ruby color. One of the signature characteristics of this fabulous shade is the fascinating variation in tone; occasionally deep ruby throughout, or perhaps shading more to crimson and even amberina. It's hard to find two pieces exactly the same.

If the stunning color wasn't enough, the stretch iridescence is the "charm". During the manufacturing process, these items were sprayed with a mixture of metallic salts before being reheated and brought to their final cuspidor shape by the finisher. The finishing process often creates a myriad of striations and a slightly rough texture in the iridescent surface, particularly at the edges of the piece.

And if the rich color and the stretch iridescence aren't enough, well, our 2004 commemorative is in a magnificent cuspidor shape. This was a particularly difficult piece to make, through its many stages of re-heating and shaping. The difficulties and challenges of the process have resulted in each item having its own characteristics of shape, which may include minor bumps or slightly less than perfect symmetry on the rim. Only 103 examples of this exceptional item have been produced.

2003

The 2003 Edition of the Woodsland Pine was produced in the original mould bowl shape, and the color is Fenton's incredible Favrene.  The exterior pattern is the Flowers of the World pattern.  Approximately 250 of these pieces were produced.  The marie is marked to commemorate the 5th Annual Convention in St. Louis.  Favrene was first developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany as Blue Favrile. The formula contains pure silver which is coaxed to the surface through a series of cooling and re-heating steps. The finished color is a breathtaking blue with vibrant iridescence. Favrene is a rare and sought after color, usually made in limited editions. We consider ourselves fortunate indeed that the Fenton Art Glass Company agreed to produce this superb item for our club.

2002

The 2002 Edition of the Woodsland Pine was produced in a crimped edge plate, and the color is Fenton's black amethyst.  The exterior pattern is the Flowers of the World pattern.  The back of the piece was not iridized.  The front of the piece was doubly iridized, giving the piece striking iridescence.  Approximately 200 of these pieces were produced.  The marie is marked to commemorate the 4th Annual Convention in Raleigh-Durham.

2001

The 2001 Edition of the Woodsland Pine was produced in a crimped edge Jack-in-the-Pulpit shape, and the color is Fenton's ruby.  The exterior pattern is the Flowers of the World pattern.  Approximately 200 of these pieces were produced.  The marie is unmarked.

2000

The 2000 Edition of the Woodsland Pine was produced in a rosebowl shape, and the color is Fenton's cobalt blue.  The exterior pattern is the Flowers of the World pattern, the first time it was used on www.cga pieces.  Approximately 250 of these pieces were produced.  The marie is marked to commemorate the 2nd Annual Convention in Williamsburg.

THIS EDITION IS SOLD OUT!

1999

The 1999 Edition of the Woodsland Pine was produced in the shape of a 6" plate, and the color is Fenton's Seamist Green.  The exterior pattern was Fenton's Imperial Open Rose, the only edition of the Woodsland Pine without the Flowers of the World exterior mould.  Approximately 300 of these pieces were produced.  The marie is marked to commemorate the first annual www.cga convention, held in Las Vegas.
