From Art to Glass:
The Making of the Woodsland Pine

Marty Seufer has filmed the various steps in creating carnival glass, specifically one with a Favrene finish like the 2003 Woodsland Pine.  If you would like to watch these films in Real Streaming Video, please make sure you have the player installed and choose the corresponding link below based on your connection speed.

This illustration shows the entire project in its first step.  Artist and former www.cga President Glen Thistlewood drew the above patterns in a large resolution format.  These patterns were then cut intaglio into a large metal mould and plunger (the exterior Flowers of the World pattern on the right is in the mould, the Woodsland Pine pattern on the left is in the plunger).  From these moulds come the Woodsland Pine.

In this picture, the molten glass is being shaped and cooled to be carried over to be blown into the mould.  Our bowl would have had to be cooled before being taken over to be pressed.
